Prepare for the spiritual journey of Char Dham Yatra 2024 as the gates of three revered Himalayan shrines – Badrinath Dham, Kedarnath Dham, and Gangotri Dham – are poised to welcome pilgrims, signaling the commencement of this sacred pilgrimage in Uttarakhand.
The opening ceremony at Sri Badrinath Dham is slated for May 12 at 6 AM, while Shri Kedarnath Dham will open its doors two days earlier, on May 10, at 7 AM. Pilgrims from various parts of the country are expected to converge at these holy destinations to seek blessings and perform traditional rituals.
On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the portals of Shri Gangotri Dham will also swing open. This revered site, known as the origin of the holy river Ganga, boasts a temple standing at a height of 20 feet, adorned with intricate carvings on white granite. Nestled amidst the majestic, snow-capped Himalayas, Gangotri experiences heavy snowfall between December and March.
The Char Dham Yatra, encompassing the pilgrimage to the four sacred sites of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, holds deep spiritual significance in Hinduism. Typically occurring from April/May to October/November, this journey’s timing depends on weather conditions. The portals of these Himalayan temples, visited by millions annually, remain closed during the winter months due to heavy snowfall.
