Lodhi or Lodi Gardens add glory to the city Delhi. The Lodhi/Lodi Garden is a gorgeous park which is spread over a vast area of 90 acres. It contains many small and big tombs. The Lodhi/Lodi garden is a popular spot amongst morning walkers and joggers. The Garden is located on Lodi road and the nearest metro station to Lodhi Gardens is Jor Bagh metro station on the yellow line.

Lodi/Lodhi Gardens holds some great historical monuments from Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties. It is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Mohammed Shah’s tomb (last leader of Sayyid Dynasty) was the earliest monument constructed in the garden; it was constructed in 1444 by Ala-ud-din Alam Shah as an honor to Mohammed Shah. Another tomb inside the gardens is Sikander Lodi’s Tomb; it was constructed by his son Ibrahim Lodi in 1517, the last ruler of Delhi from the Lodi dynasty.

Bara Gumbad is a tomb which is located in the center of the Lodi garden. The Gumbad contains a huge rubble construct dome, it is a gateway to an attached three-domed mosque. Opposite to the Bara Gumbad is the Shisha Gumbad that encloses the remains of an unidentified family, all these monuments are built during the reign of Sikander Lodi.

Lodi Garden also has a small lake within the garden that attracts various breeds of birds. The lake is a perfect spot to sit and relax. It is also an amazing spot for photography/photoshoot.

The park also encloses a rose garden with having around 200 varieties of roses. During the British period, the park was landscaped by Lady Willingdon in 1936, thus the park at that time known as Lady Willingdon Park; but after Independence, it got its current name, Lodi Gardens. Afterward, it was re-landscaped by J A Stein in 1968.

How to Reach Lodi Gardens?

The beautiful garden is located at Main Lodi Road, New Delhi. The nearest metro station to the place is Jor Bagh on the yellow line (approx. 1 km).
