Savitri Temple Pushkar – History, Timings & How to Reach

The Savitri Temple in Pushkar is situated on the Ratnagiri Hill top, the temple is dedicated to the first wife of Lord Brahma, Savitri a.k.a. Saraswati. It is one of the most significant Temples in Pushkar, It is said that the visit to Brahma Temple is incomplete without a visit to this Savitri Temple. Aarti is performed at Savitri Mandir before the Brahma Mandir. Pushkar Savitri Temple Timings: 5:00 AM to 12 Noon & 4:00 PM to 9 PM.

 

History:

The sanctum of the temple houses an idol of the Goddess Savitri along with an idol of Goddess Gayatri (Brahma’s 2nd wife). It is said that the Temple was constructed in 1687 and the idol of Goddess Savitri is dated back to 7th century AD.

Mythological History of Savitri Temple: It is said that, when Lord Brahma was performing Yagya at Pushkar Lake, Goddess Savitri got late to accompany him to finish the yagya. The time was very auspicious, that’s why Lord Brahma didn’t want the time to pass, So he got married to a local girl (Goddess Gayatri) to finish the yagya.

When Goddess Savitri came, she saw someone else sitting at her place, Angry goddess Cursed Lord Brahma that he won’t be worshipped anywhere else. Then she went to the top of the Ratnagiri Hills, where  this temple is located.

 

How to reach Savitri temple?

The Savitri Temple is around 2.5 km from the Pushkar bus stand and around 15 mins walk from the Brahma Temple.

To go-up to the Savitri Mandir, (How many steps are there in Savitri Temple Pushkar?) One can either climb-up over 700 steps or use the Ropeway. It takes around 1 to 2 hours to climb up the stairs and around 5 mins via ropeway(+wait for the turn).


During the 5-minutes ascent in the ropeway to the top of the Ratnagiri Hill, you can enjoy the birds eye view of the entire Pushkar.

Cost for the temple ropeway: Rs. 94/person for one side, Rs. 139/person for both sides.
Timings of the ropeway: 7:30 AM to 12 Noon & 2:00 to 7:30 PM.
